An innovative start-up to meet your needs in the marine and numerical simulation fields
HydrOcean is a young innovative company established in July 2007 by Erwan Jacquin, engineer and PhD graduate from the Ecole Centrale Nantes (French engineering college), formerly employed as an expert in Resistance and Propulsion of Ships at the Bassin d'essais des carènes (DGA).
The company offers design support in the maritime field, through the use of innovative numerical simulation tools.
Hydrocean’s mission is to provide the greatest advantage possible to its clients, offering a large range of specific tools focused on the maritime field.

L'idée de créer la société HydrOcean est née conjointement chez son créateur, à la direction de l'Ecole Centrale Nante et des chercheurs du Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides (ECN/CNRS). Les outils particulièrement performants qui y sont développés peuvent avoir des applications industrielles moyennant des développements applicatifs. C'est précisément le rôle d'HydrOcean, permettant ainsi d'assurer un transfert de technologies particulièrement efficace, et de rendre ainsi accessible à ses clients, les outils les plus performants.
HydrOcean aims to increase its activity in the numerical simulation sector by 20% over the next 3 years
Due to the benefits brought by the latest generation tools (cost reduction, reliability, time-saving…), industrial demand is extremely high in this domain and constant growth is forecast for the future. A recent study, realized by a specialist Anglo-Saxon consultancy, Daratech, evaluates the growth of this activity at 18% for the next 3 years. HydrOcean aims to take advantage of this situation applying its techniques to business sectors currently in boom (naval, offshore, yachting, marine power) in order to increase its turnover and to develop international business.
Winner of the 9th national competition for the facilitation of business startups using innovative technologies
HydrOcean was a winner in 2007, in the Creation Development category, of the 9th Concours national d’aide à la création d’entreprises de technologies innovantes organized by the higher education and research ministry. It rewards and fosters the development of innovative CFD software by HydrOcean, which is based on a particule method (SPH-Flow).
This tool will enable us to meet industrial needs that current tools cannot do.

New opportunities for the future
The development of innovative simulation tools such as the computation code SPH-Flow, which is a real technical breakthrough in comparison with current tools, opens up major development prospects for HydrOcean in the near future.
Legal organization
HydrOcean is a SAS (société par action simplifié) with a capital of 47k€.
HydrOcean has a scientific council, which defines and validates its strategy. This board is composed of recognized scientists from the Ecole Centrale Nantes, the DGA (Ministery of Defence) and private research laboratories.
Team of hydrodynamics and numerical simulation experts
HydrOcean’s team is composed of highly qualified experts(engineering graduates from recognised institutions and/or PhD graduates) in numerical simulation. Moreover the team has a strong naval background.
